Medea is an ancient Greek tragedy written by Euripides, based upon the myth of Jason and Medea, first produced in 431 B.C. It opens in a state of conflict. Jason has abandoned his wife, Medea, and their two children in the hopes to advance his station by remarrying Glauce, the daughter of Creon, King of Corinth. Jason's abandonment of the family has crushed Medea to the degree she curses her own existence, as well as her two children.
